Equipment introduction
BB fertilizer mixer, also known as Bulk Blending Fertilizer Mixer, is the core mixing equipment of the BB fertilizer (blended fertilizer) production line. Its main function is to physically mix two or more simple fertilizers (such as urea, ammonium phosphate, potassium chloride, etc.) in a set proportion to make a compound fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and medium and trace elements. The entire mixing process is physical mixing and no significant chemical reactions occur. Therefore, the equipment structure is relatively simple, the investment cost is low, and the formula adjustment is flexible. It is especially suitable for the personalized needs of soil testing and formula fertilization.
The BB fertilizer mixer overcomes the chromatography (segregation) and diversion phenomena of the mixture caused by differences in raw material specific gravity and particle size, significantly improves the batching accuracy, and is an ideal choice for BB fertilizer manufacturers.

Working Principle of the Equipment
The BB fertilizer mixer operates in both forward and reverse directions, achieving efficient mixing through a special internal spiral mechanism and unique three-dimensional structure:
- Work Process:
1) Feeding: Raw materials are fed into the top feed inlet of the mixer via a lifting system.
2) Mixing (Forward Rotation): The motor drives the cylinder to rotate clockwise. The internal spiral blades continuously lift, tumble, and drop the material, forming a composite motion of axial and radial directions. Different particles collide and interweave fully in three-dimensional space, achieving uniform mixing.
3) Anti-caking: During the mixing process, the anti-caking device operates synchronously to break up material agglomerations.
4) Discharging (Reverse Rotation): After mixing, the cylinder rotates counterclockwise. The spiral blades push the material to the bottom discharge port, the pneumatic valve opens, and the finished product is discharged at a uniform speed under the push of the spiral belt.
5) Conveying: The mixed BB fertilizer enters the subsequent screening and packaging processes.
- Core Mechanism: Through the triple action of convection, shearing, and diffusion, raw materials with different specific gravities and particle sizes are rapidly penetrated and evenly distributed, effectively overcoming segregation.
Common Faults, Causes and Solutions
| Fault Phenomenon |
Root Cause |
Standard Solution |
| Material stratification & uneven nutrient content after mixing |
Insufficient mixing time; rotation speed too high/low; worn‑out guide scraper; damp & caked raw materials |
Extend mixing time above 5 min; adjust speed to 14‑25r/min; replace guide scraper; crush caked raw materials in advance |
| Massive particle breakage & coating peeling |
Excessive rotating speed; sharp blade edges; heavy impact from feeding drop height |
Reduce rotating speed; grind blade edges to round corners; install buffer chute at feeding inlet |
| Discharge leakage & dust emission |
Aged sealing gasket of discharge valve; damaged inspection‑port seal; dust‑removal system failure |
Replace sealing gaskets; refill sealing filler; clear blocked dust‑removal pipelines |
| Motor overload & hard startup |
Caked material accumulated inside cylinder; idler jamming; over‑volume feeding |
Clean residual materials; remove debris on idlers; strictly feed according to rated capacity, avoid overload |
| Cylinder shaking & abnormal noise during operation |
Broken shock‑absorbing pad; uneven idler wear; loose anchor bolts |
Replace shock‑absorbing pads & worn idlers; fasten all anchor bolts and calibrate horizontal level |
| Continuous high‑temperature & abnormal noise of bearing |
Lubricant exhaustion; water ingress; bearing wear |
Add lubricant; drain accumulated water, replace waterproof seal; install new bearings |
| Large‑area material caking inside cylinder |
Excessive raw‑material moisture; no polished inner liner; long‑term without cleaning |
Control raw‑material moisture below 8%; install stainless‑steel polished liner; clean residual materials weekly |

Applications of the Equipment
BB fertilizer mixers have a wide range of applications, mainly concentrated in the following areas:
- BB Fertilizer/Blended Fertilizer Production (Core Application)
BB fertilizer mixers are specialized mixing equipment for producing BB fertilizer (blended fertilizer), and are also core equipment in compound fertilizer and formulated fertilizer processing lines. They are widely applicable to BB fertilizer processing plants with an annual output of 10,000 to 100,000 tons, formulated fertilizer customization workshops, and soil testing and formula fertilization service stations of large agricultural input dealers.
- Soil Testing and Formula Fertilization
Based on soil nutrient data and crop nutrient requirements in different regions, the nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium ratio can be adjusted in real time to produce various specifications of specialized fertilizers, such as general-purpose (15-15-15), high-nitrogen (28-6-6), and high-potassium (16-8-24), meeting the personalized nutritional needs of different crops such as corn, wheat, fruit trees, and vegetables.
- Functional BB Fertilizer Production
Functional BB fertilizers can be produced by uniformly coating or mixing trace elements such as zinc, boron, and molybdenum onto the surface of granules using a premixed carrier.
- Other Industries The BB fertilizer mixer can also be used for mixing materials in industries such as fertilizer, pharmaceuticals, food, mining, and dry powder. It is suitable for mixing two or more fertilizers and premixes.
Application in Production Line
The BB fertilizer mixer serves as the core hub of the BB fertilizer production line. It receives materials from the batching process, completes physical blending of granular materials, and delivers finished materials to the packaging section.
- Process Flow
After being discharged from the storage silo, the raw materials enter the automatic batching system for precise metering, and are then conveyed by a belt conveyor to the BB fertilizer mixer for uniform mixing. The mixed material is discharged through the discharge port and enters the quantitative packaging machine for weighing and packaging, then is sealed by an automatic sewing machine, and finally transferred by the finished product belt conveyor to the finished product stacking area for storage. The entire process realizes continuous automated operation from batching and mixing to packaging and stacking.
